With a masterful blend of soul, substance, and strategy, Garrett uses his talent and platform not only to entertain but to empower.
Garrett’s trajectory as a songwriter began to point upwards in 2010 when he partnered with Award-winning producer and songwriter, Fred Jerkins, III of Darkchild Gospel. With Jerkins, Garrett garnered a Grammy-nomination, Dove Award, and Stellar Award while writing songs for notable artists such as Deitrick Haddon, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Darwin Hobbs, Darlene McCoy, Alexis Spight, Lowell Pye & more. The R&B side of Garrett’s pen has carved out hits for artists such as Joe, Kelly Rowland, Fantasia, Noel Gourdin, Jordan Knight, Ruben Studdard & more. His wide-ranging collaborations as a songwriter showcase a creative versatility that crosses genres and generations.
In 2012 Garrett began his own journey as a solo-recording artist with his debut R&B album, Expose Yourself. In 2015, Garrett made waves with the release of his first radio single, “By Myself.” This soul-riveting song led to reminiscent comparisons to soul-legends Al Green and Sam Cooke. His discography—featuring albums like This HILL (2019) The Awakening (2020), The Lightness of Love (2021), and SFTY (2024)—blends heartfelt storytelling with timeless musicianship, echoing the soul legacy of icons while carving a sound unmistakably his own. As a sonic craftsman and powerhouse vocalist, Garrett achieved national acclaim in 2023 with his single “’Til I Get Back To You,” which soared to #15 on the Billboard Adult R&B chart, solidifying his position as a compelling voice in contemporary soul. Garrett is currently promoting his latest single, “You Give Me Life,” a heart-moving ode to the life-giving and hope-inspiring power of love.
Also in 2015, Alvin Garrett developed and launched a mission-oriented songwriting-therapy program called The Write Life. This groundbreaking music-based behavioral therapy program is designed to empower justice-impacted individuals and opposing gang members to rewrite their lives through self-awareness, conflict resolution, and intent-based decision making. In partnership with The Dannon Project, a re-entry and social services agency based in Birmingham, AL, this initiative has become a national model for restorative justice and trauma-informed programming.
Garrett’s creative brilliance is grounded in a strong academic foundation. He is a cum laude graduate of Samford University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business management—an accomplishment that fuels his strategic, entrepreneurial approach to both artistry and impact. Equally powerful in a recording booth, boardroom, or community space, Alvin Garrett embodies the rare blend of excellence and empathy, artistry and advocacy. At the core, Garrett is driven by his personal philosophy and motto, “Because of HOPE, I have the INSPIRATION to pursue what I LOVE at the risk of LOSS.”
